THE DESIGN ALLIANCE

Industrial designers love Porsches. Hell, they probably love Porsche more than Porsche does. Some industrial designers design new ballpoint pens, and some design weed wackers. Others design boats, or staplers, or streetlamps. Really lucky ones get to design space ships for Star Wars. Even luckier ones get to work for Porsche. Both brands had been inspiring designers to pick up a pencil for generations.

Rumor is that the seats in the Millennium falcon were from a 930 Turbo. A ship in the animated series “Star Wars Resistance” was admittedly modeled directly off of the Porsche 917, Gulf livery and all. For a creative team charged with amping up Porsche’s cultural relevance, one of the most anticipated movies of the most popular movie franchise in history presented an opportunity too good to resist.

While other car companies happily shell out millions to put droids in their commercials, we decided to lean into the authentic connection between the Porsche and Star Wars Universes. Thus the Design Alliance was born, a partnership between the design teams at Porsche and Lucasfilm. Their mission: Create the only craft in the Star Wars Universe designed in conjunction with an auto brand, or any brand for that matter.
